Rajamouli Likes Ajay Kumar Character In Dookudu

G. Ajay Kumar is not a new talent in Tollywood.  But he is a character whom SS Rajamouli fell in love with after watching Dookudu.  Well, Vytla finds Mahesh Babu's character in the sensational hit quite interesting.

In a statement he made after watching the movie, he said that the hero's character is the best thing in Dookudu.  Patting on the back of the director for sketching the character, he opined that Mahesh has carried the role with panache.

He got it right when he acknowledged that the business acumen of the producers, who managed to get the film released in a large number of screens, contributed to the success of the film in no mean measure.

Cast: Mahesh Babu, Samantha, Prakash Raj, Sonu Sood, M S Narayana, Brahmanandam, Nasser, Kota, Sayaji Shinde, Supreeth, Vennela Kishore, Subbaraju, Tanikella, Parvathi Melton, Sonia
Music: S S Thaman
Cinematographer: K V Guhan
Story: Gopimohan
Director: Srinu Vaitla
Producers: Anil Sunkara, Achanta Ram, Achanta Gopichand
Release date: 23/09/2011

Story:
An entertaining tale, the story begins with Ajay (mahesh) a tough and honest cop who is out to get the bad guys. His father Shankar Narayan (prakash raj) is a very noble and highly regarded person among the masses. However, his enemies (kota, supreeth, sayaji shinde) plan and attack him. They think he is dead. But he is rescued and he keeps recovering. Meanwhile, Ajay is given the task to locate the dreaded mafia don Naik (sonu sood). Incidentally, even Naik is also linked to the condition of Shankar Narayana. The story takes a turn when Ajay gets to know about what exactly happened to his father. He decides to take revenge on all those who are responsible and what happens from there forms the rest of the story.

Presentation:
The director has come up with a predictable storyline and while the presentation was neat, the narrative was strong. The dialogues were the highlight and they are very entertaining, the script was well written and the screenplay was apt. Background score was good and almost all the songs were hummable. Cinematography was effective. Editing was regular. Costumes were stylish while the art department was appealing and rich. Mahesh Babu has given a thunderbolt performance and he rocks with his looks and performance. Samantha was sweet but not enough meat in her role. Same problem for Sonu Sood as well, though he looks stylish he was not able to give that villainy. Brahmanandam was outstanding. M S Narayana was hilarious. Vennela Kishore was good. Sonia was okay. Nasser was natural. Tanikella, Chandramohan and other padding artistes did well. Don't' Miss Parvathi Melton and her item song, she was simply superb.

Conclusion: Yet again, the maker has come up with his standard formula but still he manages to engage the audience with good dose of humour. While the first half goes in various directions and creates an unrest, it is the second half which really makes up for all the hiccups and goes breezily. Despite the length of the film, there is enough comedy and entertainment which carries the audience. At the box office, this will appeal to Mahesh Babu fans, family audiences. So, success is strongly written on the cards.

Mahesh Scores one for Tollywood

Forget what the critics have to say. Don’t bother about the ratings. Just go to the theatre, see the movie. Watch the audience roll in laughter, and clap in delight. Feel nearly three hours go past you in a trance. Once you are out of the movie hall, you’ll find it difficult to get the movie out of you. Srinu Vaitla’s Dookudu starring Mahesh Babu will put the faith of Tollywood movie making back into your heart.

After watching the Suriyas, Ajiths and Vikrams steal the thunder from right under our noses, we can now say it with pride – our heroes, with the right script, can deliver – even better. Dookudu is a big thumbs up for Tollywood brand commercial cinema. The heroism has attitude.

The villainy has menace. And the comedy has nativity. Above all Sriniu Vaitla as the director has demonstrated command over the subject. The way he handled the father and son sentiment is, to say the least, neat. No guesses for the actor who holds all this together – Mahesh. He is gifted with ungodly good looks and a screen presence that can make stones swoon. As if that is not enough his timing for comedy seems to be getting better with each movie. The nonchalance with which he shifts emotions can make other actors in the frame insecure.

But Prakash Raj and Nasseer as the goodies are veterans. As are Kota and Sonu Sood as the baddies. There is nothing new to say about Brahmanandam and M S Narayana. Their laughter can light up a bottomless pit. In that context Srinu Vaitla’s casting and characterization are superb. The one with the least experience – heroine Samantha is hid well.

If anything she has the least screen presence with Mahesh. Nothing, they say, succeeds like success. We now know that Mahesh’s tweets were anything but emotional. He knows enough cinema to judge the good and the ordinary.

Dookudu, even a cynic will admit is merely not good from a commercial point of view. It is good from an industry perspective too. If the extremely happy faces of those coming out of the theatre are any indication, it looks like the festival season has arrived slightly early for Tollywood.

Crowds embrace Dookudu with joy

The Industry has unanimously declared that Dookudu is a superb success. Collections are rocking across the world for Prince Mahesh Babu’s action and comedy entertainer Dookudu. The movie is a welcome boost for the Telugu Film Industry as it has been reeling under attack from a host of successful dubbed films. The entire industry is celebrating the success of Mahesh Babu’s Dookudu as the Prince has gone without a proper blockbuster success for a while now.

The crowds also embraced Dookudu in a big way and the movie has been getting a positive word of mouth from families and casual movie lovers. Students and young employees are going gaga over Mahesh Babu’s looks and fights. With bumper openings, a long holiday season and no major films in sight till almost two weeks away, Dookudu will re-write a lot of commercial records in the Telugu Film Industry.

Dookudu review: A Bonanza to Mahesh Fans - Sify

Movie:Dookudu
Director:Sreenu Vaitla
Cast:Mahesh Babu, Samantha, Prakash Raj, Brahmanandam

By Moviebuzz

Mahesh Babu`s much-awaited film Dookudu had a hysterical release in record number of theatres all over the world, though it suffered the sting of the Telangana agitators in the Nizam area.
Mahesh Babu`s image plus Srinu Vytla direction, who delivered consistent hits at the box office, raised the expectations to the skies. Let us see the results.

An undercover IPS officer Ajay (Mahesh Babu) wants to take vengeance on a dreaded don Nayak (Sonu Sood) and his accomplices Kota and Shayaji Shinde), who were once the followers of his father and an honest politician Shankar Narayana (Prakash Raj).

The trio tries to kill of Ajay`s father who falls into coma. After several years, Ajay IPS, moves to Istanbul, where he falls in love with a ravishing beauty Prashanti (Samantha).

Now, the hero is set to face two missions – to win the heart of his ladylove and the game of blood for blood. How he achieves the goals form the crux of the movie.

Mahesh Babu`s role, particularly in the action episodes, rocks. Even in emotional scenes too, the hero looks superb, drawing applause from the audience.

Coupled with this, Mahesh thrills with his comedy timing. Going by the story, Mahesh Babu donned two different attires, impressive in both and playing them to perfection.

It is discouraging to watch Samantha, who is just a glam doll, yet with no mass appeal. In fact, her performance comes as a dampener. Parvati Melton`s item song is a dud, and gives a feel that it is a wasteful venture in the movie.

As usual, Prakash Raj is an asset to the film. Sonu Sood excelled in his villainy, while the other baddies Kota, Sayaji Shinde and Supreeth are adequate.

Brahmanandam-MS Narayana comedy is hilarious and worth a watch. Definitely, the episodes bear the mark of Seenu Vytla. Nassar who plays Mahesh`s boss looked routine. Suman and Nagababu as cops in a few scenes are wasted.

Director Seenu Vytla succeeds in blending his trademark skills with that of Mahesh Babu in the right mix. Gopi Mohan`s story and dialogues by Kona Venkat sync well. While the first half is slow, the audiences are rather surprised at the speed of the second half.

Screenplay should have been better in the second half, but the punch from the comedy department could overshadow the boredom.

SS Thaman`s music sounded average in the theatres, though a couple of numbers – `Guruvaram` and `Dethadi` – could enliven the mood of the spectators. The background score and the music during some romantic moments are dull.

Cinematography by Guhan is excellent, while action is a major highlights. Costumes were superb. Production values are high.

Despite the drawbacks, Dookudu holds the power to lure the crowds, with its commercial values. The audiences will feel that some of the scenes and characters are inspired by Mahesh Babu`s blockbuster Pokiri and Athadu.

The influence of the Bollywood movie Patiala House can also be seen to some extent.

Anyways, Dookudu is a bonanza to Mahesh Babu`s fans and it will not disappoint the family crowds either.

Verdict: Entertaining

Dookudu Movie Review - The Times Of India

Rating 3.5/5

Mahesh Babu, the superstar of Tollywood, has not had a hit since " Pokiri", which released almost five years ago. Now, the star makes a big comeback with his cop act in Srinu Vytla's slick flick, " Dookudu".

Shankar Narayana (Prakash Raj) is a local leader who always helps the poor. When a truck collides with the car his brother and he are in, Shankar goes into a coma. But the rest of the world thinks he is killed in that accident, except his family. His son, Ajay (Mahesh Babu), is a cop in Mumbai who fights against the mafia. When he heads to Turkey to nab a mafia leader, he meets Prashanthi (Samantha), daughter of Ajay's senior police officer and soon falls in love with her.

When he returns to India, he finds out that his father's accident was planned by a mafia leader Naik (Sonu Sood). Ajay wants to take revenge on Raju Naik. Meanwhile, Shankar Narayan is out of coma, but doctors warn that he will go back to that state if he ever hears any shocking news. So, Ajay has to keep him happy, even as he plots to kill the mafia don.

"Dookudu" is a typical Srinu Vytla film with a generous sprinkling of comedy. His narrative manages to keep the audience engaged until the end of the movie. The dialogues with that extra 'punch' suit Mahesh perfectly. Kudos to Kona Venkat who penned the dialogues.

Mahesh carries the film all the way with his performance. Whether he's playing the tough cop or emoting as the sensitive son - the actor shines in ever scene. His dialogue delivery and mannerisms continue to impress - a few dialogues that he delivers in the Telangana accent is commendable and so are his comic scenes. The scene where Mahesh Babu talks about Samantha, without knowing that she is hearing, is to watch out for.

Samantha looks beautiful and has done a great job, though her role isn't too lengthy. Prakash Raj is brilliant as usual. The scenes with both Prakash Raj and Mahesh Babu are very emotional.

Like in his earlier films, Srinu Vytla brings in Brahmanandam for the laughs. Along with MS Narayana, the comedian manages to do just that. Sonu Sood, who plays a baddie again, plays his part
effortlessly. Subbaraju and Sayaji Shinde are good in their roles.

The music manages to impress and so does KV Guhan's cinematography - the movie looks very stylish.
This movie comes as a blessing for not just Mahesh Babu, but also for Tollywood, which is badly in need of a hit, after the recent spate of box office debacles. Srinu Vytla and Mahesh Babu have come out with a winner in "Dookudu".

Dookudu Review: 'Drama'tic Magic - Greatandhra

Film: Dookudu
Rating: 3.25/5
Banner: 14 Reels Entertainment
Cast: Mahesh Babu, Samantha, Prakash Raj, Sonu Sood, M S Narayana, Brahmanandam
Music: S S Thaman
Dialogues: Kona Venkat
Cinematographer: K V Guhan
Editing: M R Varma
Story, screenplay, Direction: Srinu Vaitla
Producers: Anil Sunkara, Achanta Ram, Achanta Gopichand
Release date: 23/09/2011

The much delayed and most awaited movie has finally arrived. It has brought Mahesh Babu along with Samantha under the direction of Srinu Vaitla. Let us take a plunge into the details.

Story:
Shankar Narayana (Prakash Raj) an honest man with ideals who does a lot for the poor. His good deeds find enemies (Kota, Supreeth, Sayaji). Shankar’s son Ajay (Mahesh Babu) grows up to be an honest and tough cop.

While the whole world thinks Shankar Narayana is dead, he is actually recovering in a hospital. Meanwhile, unaware of all this flashback Ajay sets on a mission to hunt Nayak (Sonu Sood), a dreaded mafia don. In this process, he comes across Prashanti (Samantha) and falls in love with her. Meanwhile, Shankar Narayana recovers but he is not supposed to go through any sort of stress.

For this, Ajay starts doing all sorts of things to keep him happy. The story takes a turn when Ajay discovers about the attack on his father and decides to take revenge. How does he do that? Whether he is successful or not forms the rest of the story.

Performances:
Mahesh Babu gives a powerhouse performance. His versatility in acting and emoting of various expressions is impressive. As usual, he rocks with his style and handsome looks.

Samantha looks sweet. She manages to do justice in songs and the light romance track. However, she must reduce her dose of makeup and start focusing on adding few extra pounds, that will make her double sexy.

Prakash Raj was matured as usual. Though he doesn’t have intense scenes in it, he maintains a contained act and does his bit as required.

Sonu Sood looks stylish as a villain but his characterization is not that powerful. This time, he was not able to create the required impact.

Nasser was natural, Brahmanandam was hilarious, M S Narayana was fantastic, Vennela Kishore brought few extra smiles and made his presence felt, Sonia was alright, Subbaraju made his presence felt, Kota was effective, Sayaji Shinde was standard, Aditya Menon was apt, Tanikella Bharani was elegant, Supreeth was okay. Special mention must be made of Parvathi Melton. Her item song and her oozing sex appeal is a visual delight. The others did their bit as required and added value.

Highlights:
Mahesh Babu’s performance
Brahmi, M S Narayana comedy
Second half
Parvathi Melton’s item song

Drawbacks:
First half
Length
Routine Vaitla formula
Weak romance track
MLA get up Mahesh Babu got wasted

Analysis:
The two names, Mahesh Babu and Srinu Vaitla, are enough to set high expectations for the film. But the best way to enjoy this film is to go with an open mind. As such, this is a typical Srinu Vaitla film and his formula and pattern is the same from start to finish.

Subba Raju’s character resembles Jaya Prakash Reddy in ‘Dhee’. Brahmanandam’s character resembles what he portrayed in ‘Ready’.

Only difference is, the commercial elements are high and for a change he has shown villains as villains and not converted them to good beings.

As usual, Vaitla relied on his strengths ie comedy and dialogues. During the first half, things are quite erratic and it is hard to connect. Many were looking at their watches for the interval bang. During the interval many gave thumbs down reactions and somewhat negative vibes.

The much hyped Mahesh Babu’s MLA get up is wasted in the film. The purpose of raising curtain for a reality show by Mahesh Babu is not at all convincing but boring. Taking the bigger risk of reality show to keep father happy is like a cock and bull story. The entertainment graph falls down suddenly due to that. Audience gets disconnected to the film at that moment for about 20 minutes. Although the purpose of that reality show is not convincing, the pattern in which it goes with other artistes brought the humor.

But second half covered up the entire thing and no one looks at the watch anymore. There are few points which are worth mentioning here: When Dharmavarapu faxes a celebrity photo to the villains. All are shocked. You must watch the film to enjoy that. The scene between Sonu Sood and Prakash Raj. It is a straight lift from ‘Sarkar’ scene between Amitabh Bachchan and Zakir Hussain, but a weak imitation. Last twenty minutes comedy and the dialogues of Brahmi and M S Narayana Overall, the film has the right ingredients to appeal the family audience and though most of it is expected, it is the pace and ability with which the audience is engaged and the entertainment value they get.

At the box office, with no other film in sight and the hype created, the film will be invincible.

Bottom-line: Routine Vaitla's flick
